Bungs

The lid blown off? Hardly. The proposition was that the Premierships cogs are perhaps being oiled in a way that is viewed inappropriate cf of a Panorama special with footage of undercover work amassed over 9 months. As a trained lawyer I was struggling to see the cogent evidence. The lid may have been loosened but I suspect the ranks will close in and the named will be ushered through as if nothing happened. Its too big a deal. Or conversely its actually not a problem at all. Maybe time will tell. But more infuriatingly in the after show discussion on Five Live was the obssessive nature of 'the top flight' fans where the majority of these done deals are alleged to have taken place. People ringing in and complaining that the programme had tarnished their 'love of the game'. WAKE UP people. The game has been tarnished for over a decade. The sums of money in the Premiership are astronomical. The balance between them and the lower leagues is well and truly tipped. The amount of cash some of these bungs are said to amount too would pay the wages of some lower league players. It's all warped. The notion of home grown players working their way up through the divisions - long gone.

My passion, My 'religion', My romance.

The more fundamental questions need to be addressed... Does the FA want to ensure grassroots continue? Can the FA stem the tide? Financially how many more clubs are going to have dalliances with adminstration? Will the sport only be satisified when all that remains is an elite division of 20 clubs with all other leagues disbanded? I do wonder.
